SundaeSwap set to go live in a few days

Sundaeswap testnet

Sundaeswap testnet live

It's official!! Cardano's frontrunner DEX SundaeSwap is finally live on Cardano's testnet. The dex launch on the testnet was previously slated for Sunday the 5th but was slightly postponed to Monday the 6th. After the slight hiccup, the sundaeswap team successfully deployed and announced on their twitter page.

The Sundaeswap team has provided the community with regular updates throughout the last few days. They even made a sassy joke about rebranding mondaeswap .

Sundaeswap is not the first dex to launch on Cardano; a less known dex, Muesliswap clearly takes that title. However, SundaeSwap is the most anticipated and popular dex in the Cardano community. Since Cardano's dApp ecosystem is only at its genesis, it remains to be seen how SundaeSwap will live up to its hype.

The testnet will help the team to identify bugs that they can fix before launching on the mainnet. More details on how to use the SundaeSwap dex on the text net can be found on their medium page.

Updates: February 6th

Sundaeswap to announce mainnet launch soon

Sundaeswap to announce mainnet launch soon

On Friday, the SundaeSwap Labs Team announced that they would reveal when they will launch on the mainnet in a few days. Cardano's most sought after DEX, has been running on the testnet since december 6th.

Before the main launch, the team wants to set the community's expectations right. Knowing what sort of performance is possible on the DEX is important to avoid unrealistic expectations, disappointments and possible FUD.

The team expects that during the first days there will be congestion on the DEX network. The congestion was already observed on the testnet.

After the first weeks, it's expected that orders' transaction duration will improve on the DEX. Firstly, order volume will likely stabilise as the number of trials subside. Secondly, the scoopers will get better at batch processing.

9/ Ultimately, given your excitement, there wasn't a reasonable amount of time we could delay that would eliminate day-1 backlogs. We're confident in being able to meet the real market demand, once that initial congestion burns off. We're excited to launch this protocol with you! ~ sundaeswap lab team

The expected congestion is a side effect of Cardano's parameter constraints. Cardano's network is decentralized-first and developers are busy working on scaling solutions. This means that in spite of Cardano's extended UTXO technology, the network is still limited in the number of transactions it can process in a short timeframe.

Scaling solutions such as Hydra & Mithril will improve Cardano's throughput by at least 100X. According to Charles Hoskinson, one or both of these technologies will be integrated on Cardano by the end of 2022.

This integration will most likely happen on a hard fork combinator event. These events are slated for February, June and October. The integration will help dApps such as sundaeswap process swaps at blazing fast speeds.

In the short term, the Cardano team is in the process of adding improvements to the network that will directly help sundaeswap. Such improvements include:

  1. Increasing Cardano block size and Plutus script memory limits.
  2. A network improvement called Pipelining that improves cardano's blocks' propagation.

Sundaeswap expects to have a capacity to process about 100 thousand transactions per day initially.
